In Association with UNICEF and NIF: Professor Nikk Conneman Held 4-day Basic NIDCAP Training Course at Al-Zahra Teaching Hospital

Professor Nikk Conneman, neonatologist and senior trainer of Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment Program (NIDCAP) held a 4-day training course on basic NIDCAP at Al-Zahra teaching hospital. The course which was held from 12 to 15 April, 2015 included both theoretical and practical parts.

On the first day, Professor Conneman gave a scientific lecture and explained the basics of NIDCAP to an audience of 200 neonatologists, gynecologists, doctors and NICU nurses and staff at Al-Zahra hospital's conference hall. He also described the developmental aspects of premature babies' brains and the related concepts.

The second and third days were devoted to bedside observation at NICU and involved 2 neonatologists and 2 NICU head nurses. During these 2 days the trainees learnt observational procedures and analytical methods.

Finally, on the fourth day of the course Professor Conneman taught such practical measurements as nesting and kangaroo care and evaluated the trainees.
