According to the latest update of the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) presented in January 2015, Dr. Mohammad Barzegar Jalali, professor of pharmaceutics from the TUOMS Faculty of Pharmacy, was ranked among the top 1% Highly Cited Researchers of the world. This ranking was based on the citation numbers of the papers in ISI Web of Science in a 10-year period starting from January 2005 to January 2015.

Highly Cited Researchers represents some of world’s leading scientific minds. In 2014, over three thousand researchers earned the distinction by writing the greatest numbers of reports officially designated by ESI as Highly Cited Papers—ranking among the top 1% most cited for their subject field and year of publication, earning them the mark of exceptional impact. This year a total of 25 Iranian medical scientists were ranked in the mentioned list.
